Welcome to International Belt Wrestling Association (R.A.) offical website
The 2nd European Green Festival of Traditional Wrestling Sports   \\  10-6-2008

In the Ukrainian city of Mariupol on June 5-9 more than 20 national teams were clearing up who will obtain the great quantity of medals and will be recognized as the best team. The Russian team became the one with the score of the 8 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals. The Ukrainians, Israelis, Greeks and Latvians took the following places.

– We would like to mention the speeches made by the Azerbaijani, Armenian and Belarusian national teams – said Mr Rif Gaynanov, the President of the International Belt Wrestling Association. – In comparison with the previous tournaments we can see the evident progress of these teams. It is more then obvious, that they will show the attractive wrestling sports with their distinguished adversaries during the next World Championships.

In Ukraine, the Russian wrestler Maxim Afonin traditionally marvelously appeared (weight category of over 100 kg), who in the final won a victory over his adversary Yuri Evseychuk from Israel. The Head Trainer of the Russian national team Mr Abdulbyar Niyazbaev noted that this time they took only two silver medals giving way to two Ukrainian sportswomen during the final wrestling fights.

We would like particularly to highlight the fact that in recent years the International Belt Wrestling Association works closely with UNESCO and Mr Rif Gaynanov is a representative of this respected organization. We would like also to emphasize that the biggest tournaments on belt wrestling are remarkable not only by high organization of but also because of the participation in the distinguished sportsmen as Mr Alexander Karelin, Triple Olympic Champion, as guests. This is what he considers most important.

– During the World or Europe Championships we are seeking to draw public and government’s attention to the questions relative to the ecology in those cities where we hold tournaments – continues Mr Gaynanov. – It is not by chance that the massive tree-planting has already become a good tradition. This, in particular, what happened in Istanbul, where the Continental Championship was held. During the World Championship of 2008 in Ufa we laid the Peoples' Friendship Square. In Mariupol the participants of the European Championship also planted a tree square, which numbers 230 trees!

The representatives of UNESCO and participants of the Third European Championship of Belt Wresting on Sunday June 8 on the riverside Kalchik – the opposite side of Extreme-Park, founded a new park in tribute to 230 - anniversary of Mariupol.
Not only the sportsmen but also the Mayor Mr Yuri Hotlubey and the utilities managers as well as the workers of "Zelenstroyi" took part in the transplanting of the maples and bird cherry trees. The trees were planted in the pits prepared in advance in less than half an hour, after which the planting stock was watered by a specialized machine of the "Zelenstroyi". We were asked by the Championship participants as well as by the UNESCO representatives to organize an event in honor of the Day of the city. We went forward".

The President of the International Belt Wrestling Association, who is a UNESCO representative, Mr Rif Gaynanov said: "Creation of the square was not an accident it was planned in advance. On the eve was held the International Scientific Conference on the healthy lifestyles, environment, concerning in particularity the technological centers of Ukraine. Thereafter we planted fifty oak planting stock in the park in the name of Petrovskiy (of 7 June - Ed.), today – 230 maples and bird cherry trees. Our objective, except the sport purposes, – is to draw the attention of the public and authorities on environmental issues in those cities where we hold the Championships".

According to the Mariupol City Council Secretary, Mr Alexander KOLENKOV, the question of the further accomplishment of this picturesque part of Mariupol will be considered at the session of City Council. "Today the trees were planted by the athletes from 23 European countries, who participated at the Championship, – he said. – The total area of the abovementioned square is about two hectares. Today, along with the Mayor and the managers of the utilities we inspected this place and decided to develop socio-economic plan not only for the accomplishment of this public garden, but also its enlargement along the river Kalchik. After the session of the City Council deputies the assignment will be given to the architects in order to determine a place which will be reconstructed, based on the prepared project. We want to create and expand the recreation area here".
